When Nancy Turbak was just 26 years old in 1982, she made the bold decision to leave the litigation department of a prestigious Minneapolis firm and return to her roots in Watertown. Her goal? To establish Turbak Law Office, P.C. Her journey began in nearby Kranzburg, where she attended a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Watertown High School. Nancy went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Harvard College and a doctorate of jurisprudence from one of the nation’s top law schools.

Despite her outstanding credentials, Nancy faced significant challenges as a woman in a male-dominated field. Determined to make a difference, she rented two rooms in Watertown’s historic “Old Post Office” and began her legal practice.

From its inception, Turbak Law Office, P.C., has been dedicated to serving the local community. The firm’s early years focused on court-appointed criminal defense and family law matters, for which they provided vital support to victims of domestic abuse and represented clients in child custody battles. Nancy’s commitment to justice extended beyond her private practice as she also served as a magistrate judge for the Unified Judicial System, balancing her legal career with part-time public service.
